Today, we joined the rest of the mental health fraternity in the country, to mark the World Mental Health Day.
The commemorations were held at the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation gardens and the theme for this year is, "It's time to prioritize mental health in the workplace".
Mental health has been noted to be in decline globally and nationally amongst employees and at workplaces, of which if nothing is done to intervene, so many people get to live and suffer with the effects of mental distress and disease.
We re-echoed our message with the world that workplaces and work get better, when we prioritise better mental health for all. That means openly having discussions with everyone in the chain of work and command about how we are doing and feeling, having protective policies in place against harm while at work et cetera.
A few calls to action were made:
1. Invest in a positive, healthy and safe workplace environment.
2. Respond to the voices and needs of employees and employers.
3. Celebrate the contribution and commitment of employees and employers.
