We are pleased to inform you of the High-impact virtual event for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women themed: "Protecting Women, Improving Policy: Confronting Alcohol’s Role in Gendered Violence".
We were centre-part of the panel of this discussion, represented by our Board Chairperson Ms. Namukasa Juliet.
Other Speakers of the day included:
• Melanie Hyde, from World Health Organization Europe
• Adis Arnautović , CEM, Bosnia and Herzegovina
• Kristina Šperková, International President at Movendi International.
This session cut through the noise: how alcohol increases the frequency and severity of gender-based violence; how commercial actors obstruct prevention and women's rights protections; and what governments can do now to integrate alcohol policy into strategies that protect women’s health, rights, and safety.
Our Board Chairperson Ms. Namukasa Juliet's presentation was themed, "Women’s Experiences & Policy Gaps". The following are further breakdowns of her presentation.
1. Women’s lived realities of alcohol-fueled violence.
2. Economic and social impacts on families.
3. Barriers to policy implementation & lessons for national GBV strategies.
4. Why local women’s groups in LMICs call for alcohol policy.
