Day 2 of the Uganda Alcohol Policy Conference was themed, “Evidence-based solutions to alcohol harm”.
It started with registration of conference delegates and taking feedback from the conference delegates about the conference at the Auditorium.
Plenary session 1 of the day was about the “updates on the SAFER initiative to prevent alcohol harm in Uganda”.
Dr. Kasule Hafisa from the World Health Organization presented on “Setting up an inclusive intervention for preventing the harmful use of alcohol: Lessons from the inauguration of the SAFER initiative in Uganda”.
Dr. Lukwata Hafsa from the Ministry of Health shared on the “Inauguration of the SAFER initiative to implement screening, brief interventions and referral for treatment of (SBIRT) of alcohol use and alcohol use disorders (AUD) in Uganda”.
We also heard the perspectives of the Uganda Police Force on “countering drink driving in Uganda”.
“Alcohol taxation in Uganda” was presented on keenly by the Ministry of Finance.
Plenary session 2 of the day was about the “social perspectives to prevent alcohol harm in Uganda”.
Mr. Ogwal Alex from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development presented on “Promoting SDG realization: Addressing alcohol misuse for safer families and communities”.
Dr. Makumbi Majella Gerald presented on “Alcohol regulation: A community bottom-up approach and experience”.
His Highness Manase Amuku Yuma, the Paramount Chief of Lugbara Kari presented on “leaders’ efforts to prevent alcohol harm”.

Lunch was the next activity of the day, and it led us into 2 parallel sessions.
There were 4 presentations done in each of the 2 parallel sessions.
