THEME
Alcohol tax in Uganda.

Alcohol tax policy proposal to the Government of Uganda.

We convened at Kolping Hotel with our members and members of the Fourth estate today, on issues surrounding alcohol tax in Uganda.

This meeting was in direct response to the submission Honourable Musasizi Henry, the State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development on the 25th of February 2025 while meeting with the Parliament Committee on Finance that said, "tax on high alcohol-content spirits be reduced as it's good for the economy" (which appeared in the New Vision paper of the same week).

Our guest speakers Dr. David Kalema, Professor Nazarius Tumwesigye and Mr. Kwizera Chris all concurred that the tax on these particular alcoholic drinks should be kept high.

Attached is our submission to the Government of Uganda concerning our proposal on alcohol tax in Uganda, with reference to the Excise Duty Act of 2014.
